What is Biokinetics?
The word ‘Biokinetics’ means ‘Life through movement’, in other words promoting quality of life by means of safe, effective and individualised exercise therapy.
- Biokinetics is specialised exercise therapy that is recognised by the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
- A Biokineticistspecialises in preventative medicine and final-phase rehabilitation.
- Biokineticists improve a person’s physical condition and quality of life by performing comprehensive physical assessments and prescribing individualised, scientifically-based exercise programmes.

Qualifications and Affiliations
In order to be registered as a Biokineticist, a 3 year health sciences undergraduate degree, followed by an Honours degree in Biokinetics and then 2 years of internship, the first of which takes place during the honours year, needs to be completed.
Biokineticists are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, under the board of Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Biokinetics.
